The purpose of project is support 20 gifted and talented children in poor families in Vrancea by providing annual scholarships to help children in educational process of harness their personal skills. We have already started identifying the 20 children through psychological assessment (intelligence, skills, creativity, personality) of a sample of 40 children aged between 10 and 14 years. Assessment services will be performed by applying psychological and social work methods and tools scientifically validated, as well as gathering information and nominations made by teachers of children in the target group. The next step will be represented by a series of trips in 20 villages in Vrancea County in order to achieve psychological surveys to identify children in target group and also counseling children`s families on educational and psychological services offered to gifted children. Later we will organize information campaigns about the gifted children/students and will edit a series of information materials –brochures- on this subject.
For training the volunteers of Rotary Club to participate in actions meant to promote such educational projects, we will hold a seminar on the process and instructional-educational methods on gifted and talented children.
The 20 children identified with high performance and skills, during the 2008-2009 school year, will be awarded scholarships monthly, by the Rotary Club, consisting in cash, school equipment, technical IT, etc. The project runs on a period of 12 months (July 2008- July 2009), being implemented by a 3 people team, members of Rotary Club Focsani: one psychologist and two teachers. Besides VARANA Rotary Club team, specialized project services are provided by a team of two psychologists, one social worker, teachers in about 15 schools in rural and urban areas in Vrancea County. The budget project is approximately 43.000 euro of which scholarships are in amount of 26.000 euro (currently we have gathered 9.000 euro).
Project “A chance for the gifted children” will run in partnership with the Foundation “Pro Armonia” in Focsani that will provide the know-how of social and psychological services and the psychometric tools needed; other partners: different schools in Vrancea and Vrancea County School Inspectorate.
